'On this occasion, it seems that this particular public notice slipped the net of our usual checking procedure and we can only apologise if this caused any confusion. This was certainly not the Council's intention and we would never use complicated sentences or technical jargon to purposely baffle readers.'

‘3. The switched main live is generally a single black wire and this is connected to the brown wire(s) on the fitting. On a wall light this should be a single red wire. The neutral is generally two black wires and these are connected to the blue wire(s). On a wall light this should be a single black wire. The mains earth wire(s) must be connected to all green/yellow wire(s) or earth terminal on the fitting. When completed ensure that there are no bare or loose strands of wire exposed, and cover all exposed areas of terminal blocks with insulation tape.'

'The B8483 leaflet was discontinued sometime ago and is being phased out. New products are now using improved, individual instruction leaflets with diagrams (please see attached example).

I hope you feel the improvements we have made to our instruction leaflets are easier to understand than the B8483 version. We are always interested in any comments our customers may have regarding our products as this allows us to improve our products and the services we offer to our customers.'
