Plain English and forms design course

The morning session focuses on the principles of plain English, including:

  • Shortening sentences.
  • Is the style appropriate for the audience?
  • Suggestions for clear writing.
  • Being active about passives.
  • Revealing hidden verbs.

(Note: if you have been on the one-day ‘plain English course’ in the last year or so, you will find you have already covered these principles.)

The afternoon session focuses on the principles of clear layout, including typography and design, which, used in conjunction with plain English, will make forms:

  • easier to read;
  • easier to understand;
  • easier to fill in; and
  • altogether more user-friendly.

This session will include a form-designing exercise.

If you feel it would be helpful, please bring along a typical form from your organisation so that, together, we can look at it during the afternoon session.

There will be a mid-morning break at 11am, lunch in the hotel restaurant at 12.30pm and a mid-afternoon break at 3pm.

If you have any questions about this course, or if you want to make a booking, please phone Terri on 01663 744409 or email terri.schabel@plainenglish.co.uk.
