Writing for websites course
This course looks at how to use plain English to write effective website copy. It gives tips about good use of layout, language and design, as well as explaining the various accessibility issues affecting people writing online publications.
Please note that this course is not a web design course. It is aimed at people who are required to write for the web using content management systems.
The course will cover the following:
- Tips for clearer writing
- Active writing
- Writing concisely
- Righting some writing wrongs
- Using lists
- Writing text links
- 'Alt' tags and images
- Links and navigation
This course is available as an open course, an inhouse course or an online course. Both the open and inhouse courses have an initial session that covers the principles of plain English. Please note that if you have been on the one-day ‘plain English course’ in the last year or so, you will find you have already covered these principles.
The online course, on the other hand is intended as a supplementary course, and you may wish to consider also taking either the plain English letters or reports course.
The course timings (for open and inhouse courses) are:
Lunch 12.30pm to 1.30pm
Ordering the 'Writing for websites course' as an inhouse course:
We run the course at your offices, over one day. The programme is flexible and can be adapted to your own specific needs. Some of the sessions cover techniques of plain English, and others concentrate on either practical case studies we provide or your own documents. If possible, we like to use your own material so that we are using familiar and meaningful documents to reinforce the techniques.
