Plain English and forms design course
The morning session focuses on the principles of plain English, including:
- Shortening sentences.
- Is the style appropriate for the audience?
- Suggestions for clear writing.
- Being active about passives.
- Revealing hidden verbs.
(Note: if you have been on the one-day ‘plain English course’ in the last year or so, you will find you have already covered these principles.)
The afternoon session focuses on the principles of clear layout, including typography and design, which, used in conjunction with plain English, will make forms:
- easier to read;
- easier to understand;
- easier to fill in; and
- altogether more user-friendly.
This session will include a form-designing exercise.
If you feel it would be helpful, please bring along a typical form from your organisation so that, together, we can look at it during the afternoon session.
The course timings are:
Lunch 12.30pm to 1.30pm
Ordering the Plain English and forms design course as an inhouse course:
We run the course at your offices, over one day. The programme is flexible and can be adapted to your own specific needs. If possible, we like to use your own material so that we are using familiar and meaningful forms to reinforce the techniques.
