A University of Derby online application form has been recognised for its straightforward style with a Crystal Mark. It is the first form of its kind to be recognised by the Plain English Campaign in this way.
The Plain English Campaign gives the award with their distinctive Crystal Mark logo to documents and websites that provide information clearly, with the best use of English and correct use of punctuation and grammar.
The Campaign awarded the University’s online application form, at www.derby.ac.uk/applyonline, the Crystal Mark after it found that the language used in the form, its design and layout met its very high standards. And for the first time, they also assessed the technical aspects and usability of the online form before granting it the mark.
Potential students use this online form to apply for the University’s postgraduate and professional, online and part time courses (all courses except for full time undergraduate degrees).
Peter Allen, Marketing Director at the University of Derby said: “We’re delighted to be the first university to be given the Crystal Mark for an online form.
“We always strive to communicate clearly with our students and potential students, and this mark proves that our application process is as clear and straightforward as it can be.”
Marie Clair, press officer of Plain English Campaign, says “This ground-breaking step by the University of Derby takes their online application form ahead of any other I know. Despite the amount of information needed, this is one of the most manageable online forms to use for a university application. Through the Crystal Mark accreditation for interactive pages, it has achieved the highest levels of accessibility, in plain English for a global audience.”
